The School of Civil Engineering at the University of A Coruña (UDC) is hosting two international conferences from 22 to 24 October dedicated to structural and civil engineering and innovation in construction materials. Organised by UDC in collaboration with the Porto School of Engineering, NOVA University Lisbon and the University of Minho, the events provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience between the academic and research communities.
The International Conference on Structural and Civil Engineering (ICSCE 2026) will focus on advances and challenges in architecture and civil engineering, with particular emphasis on sustainable and smart architecture and functional and artistic design. The conference aims to promote the exchange of new ideas, practical application experiences and opportunities for scientific and technical collaboration, against a backdrop of growing environmental challenges and the need to move towards more sustainable construction practices.
Meanwhile, the tenth edition of the International Conference on Building Materials and Materials Engineering (ICBMM 2026) will explore advances in materials research and development, a key field for improving the performance, efficiency and sustainability of buildings and infrastructure. Its main topics include construction materials, semiconductor materials, organic and polymeric materials, nanomaterials, composite materials and biomaterials.
Researchers from the Centre for Technological Innovation in Building and Civil Engineering (CITEEC) are taking part in the conferences, primarily through the Structural Mechanics Group (GME), the Construction Group (gCONS) and the Architectural Structures Group (GEA). Participants include Félix Nieto Mouronte, who is serving as the Local Chair, and Belén González Fonteboa, both of whom will deliver invited presentations as part of the scientific programme. Their talks will address the application of surrogate models to civil and energy structures and strategies, challenges and opportunities for sustainability in construction, respectively.
As a complement to the scientific programme, attendees visited CITEEC’s main laboratories on the first day of the conferences. The visit provided a first-hand look at the centre’s facilities and experimental resources, as well as its research and innovation capabilities in the fields of structures, architecture and construction materials.
