The CartoLab is the Cartographic Engineering Laboratory, part of the Advanced Visualisation and Cartography Group (VAC) of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, within the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of A Coruña. Its work is mainly based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applied to Civil Engineering as a computer tool for managing geospatial information, in order to achieve more efficient planning and management of infrastructure, services, resources and territorial areas.

It develops and implements methodologies and applications for the acquisition, processing, analysis and visualisation of geospatial data in public and private sector projects.

Some of its most significant projects include Emapic, a web application for the visualisation and management of geolocated questionnaires, allowing any knowledge, opinion or sentiment to be viewed on maps alongside its geographical location, and the dynamic study of school travel patterns using geolocated surveys Geomove, the initiative to help identify areas of natural interest and environmental vulnerabilities in Honduras Siros, the project to rehabilitate the Monelos River in A Coruña MonRiveR or the gvSIG-EIEL modules to help with the standard processes of projects under the Local Infrastructure and Facilities Survey.

It is currently involved in the Green Gap project (https://green-gap.eu/es/) as part of the POCTEP Programme to promote green infrastructure at a local level.
