Professor Ricardo García Mira, researcher at the Centre for Technological Innovation in Building and Civil Engineering (CITEEC) and emeritus professor at the University of A Coruña, has been distinguished by National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Taiwan in recognition of his outstanding academic and scientific career in the field of psychology applied to education.
The distinction corresponds to the Honorary Chair “Ching-Ching Hung-Dao”, created to recognize excellence in research and teaching, as well as international prestige, and to contribute to attracting and retaining academic talent. It is one of the highest distinctions awarded by National Tsing Hua University, based in Hsinchu.
This chair is promoted by the College of Education and the Department of Environmental and Cultural Resources of the Taiwanese university. The name “Ching-Ching Hung-Dao” derives from the original Chinese term “Qingjing” (the benefactor) and aims to promote the “Dao”, a Confucian philosophical concept meaning “the correct path of knowledge and education”.
A distinguished academic career
Professor García Mira, who was recently appointed emeritus professor by the Governing Council of the University of A Coruña, adds yet another distinction to his outstanding academic career. This recognition joins others he has received, including his Honorary Professorship at Bath University (2016–2027), the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (Romania) awarded in 2018, and his designation as “Academician” of the International Association of Applied Psychology (the oldest psychological society in the world), also granted in 2018. García Mira has also been a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Texas State University (2002) and Cornell University (2019), both in the United States, and more recently at the University of Tokyo (2021) and the University of Santo Tomas in Manila (2025).
