The Centre for Technological Innovation in Building and Civil Engineering (CITEEC) of the Universidade da Coruña is launching the first edition of its School Comics Competition, a contest aimed at primary and secondary school students that seeks to give visibility to the work of women in engineering.

The competition, organized on the occasion of the International Women in Engineering Day, aims to contribute to reducing the gender gap in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), eliminating prejudices and stereotypes, as well as highlighting the role of comics as a communication and outreach tool for all ages.

In this context, the submitted works should focus on the life and work of women whose professional activity falls within one of the aforementioned STEM fields, regardless of the time frame (past, present or future).

One prize will be awarded for each category (primary and secondary education), consisting of a guided visit to CITEEC for the winning student with up to 25 accompanying persons, a gift pack from the center, a poster-format print of the winning comic, and the promotion of the work and its authorship through CITEEC’s communication channels.

The submission period will remain open until June 12, 2026, for any primary and secondary school student from schools in the Autonomous Community of Galicia. Participation may be individual or in pairs. All information regarding registration, submission requirements, and the jury’s decision is available on the website or via the QR code on the poster.
