María del Mar Alonso López
Dr. María del Mar Alonso López is a senior researcher at the Public Research Organization (OPI) within the Materials Department of the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Science (IETcc), which is part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
María del Mar Alonso’s research focuses on the study of cementitious systems. In particular, her main lines of research focus on the development of new eco-efficient cementitious materials (including the transformation of industrial waste and byproducts, as well as construction and demolition waste, into resources through reuse; the study of the natural radioactivity of waste and byproducts used in the preparation of various types of cements; and the development of alternative construction materials to conventional Portland cements with energy and environmental eco-efficiency characteristics) and, furthermore, on the study of the rheology of cementitious systems (notably the analysis of the effect of concrete admixtures on the rheology of cementitious systems, the study of the compatibility of superplasticizing admixtures with concrete components, the determination of adsorption isotherms in cements, and the determination of rheological behavior in systems of conventional Portland cements and eco-efficient cements, mortars, and concretes).
María del Mar Alonso is the author of at least 46 articles in indexed scientific journals, as well as 5 book chapters. She has served as a researcher on 6 national projects (two of them as principal investigator), on 2 regional R&D grant programs of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, on one European project, and on another international project. She has also participated in 17 research contracts with national companies (four of them as principal investigator) and in eight contracts with international companies. She has supervised four completed doctoral theses and is currently supervising one.
María del Mar Alonso is also a member of the organizing and/or scientific committees of various national and international conferences, as well as editor-in-chief of the scientific journal “Materiales de Construcción” from 2019 to the present. She is also a reviewer of scientific papers for multiple SCI/WOS journals, a reviewer for projects under the National Research Plan, and head of the Materials Department at the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Science.
