Jacobo Canal Vila

Dr. Jacobo Canal Vila holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (2006), a Master’s degree in Water Engineering (2009), and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (2016) from the University of A Coruña. His areas of expertise focus on topics related to carbon capture and storage (CCS): design and construction of experimental equipment (triaxial systems); measurements of gas and water permeability in high- and low-permeability media; interpretation of acoustic velocities; determination of failure; etc.

From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a doctoral researcher at the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN), conducting CO₂ experiments, supervising the petrophysics and geomechanics campaign in Hontomín, installing and commissioning various pieces of equipment in the CIUDEN laboratory, and spending five months at the Colorado School of Mines with Mike Batzle at the Center for Rock Abuse. From 2014 to the present, he has worked for Repsol, holding successive positions as a petrophysicist, senior petrophysicist, head of the Rock and Catalysis Laboratory, and geomechanics advisor.
