Esteban Sañudo Costoya
PhD in Civil Engineering and postdoctoral researcher specialized in urban flood simulation using high-resolution dual models. My research focuses on computational hydraulics, integrating knowledge of hydraulic engineering, advanced numerical methods, and computational techniques. In this context, I work on the development, calibration, and application of numerical models focused on urban and rural hydrology, as well as river hydraulics processes.
My career is closely linked to the development of the Iber model (www.iberaula.es), a free and open-source numerical tool widely used in flood risk studies. During my doctoral thesis, I developed a dual drainage model that integrates Iber and SWMM, enabling detailed and accurate simulations in urban environments. This model is currently adopted as a calculation model in various academic and professional contexts.
I have participated in national and international research projects, led scientific publications, and promoted knowledge transfer through collaborations with public and private entities. Furthermore, I am involved in science outreach, technical training, and the organization of academic events, and I have taught in the field of applied physics.
