Elia Alonso Rodríguez

PhD in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Research fellow for four years at the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (Madrid). Since 2003, I have been a University School Professor (Catedrática de Escuela Universitaria) in the field of Analytical Chemistry at the University of A Coruña, with six five-year teaching periods (quinquenios).

My research activity focuses on:

1. Development of analytical methods for the determination of metals in biological matrices, geological materials, natural and wastewater, combustion products, and raw materials from power plants.

2. Speciation of As and Se in environmental and biological samples using hyphenated techniques.

3. Development of green chemistry methods for the extraction of major, trace metals, and organometallic species of As and Se in marine biological material.

4. Evaluation of the influence of anthropogenic, marine, and terrestrial sources on the composition of rainwater and atmospheric particles, and their characterization through the determination of major ions and trace metals.

5. In vitro studies of the human bioavailability of trace metals in food, plastics, and microplastics.

I have published more than 50 articles in international journals, positively evaluated in four six-year research periods (sexenios), and participated in more than 20 research projects at the European, national, and regional levels.
