Andrea Muñoz Ibáñez
She holds a degree and master in Civil Engineering (2015) and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of A Coruña (2020). She specializes in rock fracture mechanics and coupled hydro-chemical-mechanical processes. She is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral researcher, leading the GEOMIMIC project focused on CO₂ mineralization in fractured mafic rocks.
She has completed predoctoral stays at the National Oceanography Centre (United Kingdom, 2018) and at the Colorado School of Mines (USA, 2019), and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Vigo (2022), at KAUST (Saudi Arabia, 2022-2023) and at the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA, 2023-2025).
She has been a recipient of competitive grants, including those associated with the Xunta de Galicia’s predoctoral program and the Margarita Salas postdoctoral program of the Ministry of Universities. She has received various awards, such as the Extraordinary Doctoral Prize, the prize for best presentation at the 4th (Trondheim, 2017) and 5th (Hong Kong, 2019) editions of the International Workshop on Rock Physics, as well as at the Annual Geotechnical Poster Symposium (Georgia Tech, 2024). She was a co-organizer of the 6th International Workshop on Rock Physics, held in A Coruña in 2022, and since that same year has been an associate editor of the journal Geophysics.
