Jorge José Delgado Martín

Since 2011, he has been a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering (ETSI) at the University of Catalonia (UDC). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geological Sciences (1983–1988) and a Ph.D. (1989–1993) from the University of Barcelona (UB). Between 1988 and 1991, he was an FPI (National Plan) fellow at the Faculty of Geology at the UB. Between 1991 and 1995, he was an Assistant Professor (UB) and from 1995 to 2011, a Full Professor at the UDC. Between 1990 and 1991, he completed a doctoral fellowship at the Department of Geology at the University of Michigan (USA) and has taught specialized courses at the Department of Geology at the National University of the South (Argentina, in 2001) and at the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Guayaquil (Ecuador, in 2001). He is the author or co-author of more than 160 indexed publications (80 JCR: 48 Q1, 19 Q2, 9 Q3, and 4 Q4) and of more than 160 contributions to national and international conferences. He has participated in 35 competitive regional, national, and European research projects (17 as Principal Investigator) and in more than 115 R&D contracts (all as Principal Investigator) with companies and government agencies. He has served as director or co-director of 8 doctoral dissertations (2 with special honors, 2 international, 1 with an award from the national branch of the ISRM), 3 DEA theses, and 12 TFM theses, as well as a member of 29 doctoral dissertation committees. He has served as a reviewer for several hundred scientific papers for more than 35 indexed scientific journals, national and international conferences, research projects, and competitive grants. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Mineralogical Society (2007–2010), coordinator of Engineering and Architecture at ANECA (Salvador de Madariaga and José Castillejo programs, 2014–2017), a member of the Juan de la Cierva and Ramón y Cajal commissions (2017, 2019), and a member and secretary of the C-13 Accreditation Committee of ANECA’s national Academia accreditation program (2021–2023). He has served as editor-in-chief of the journal MACLA (2007–2011), associate news editor of the journal Elements (2008–2011), and associate editor of Rock Mechanics & Rock Engineering (since 2024). Between 2005 and 2011, he served as coordinator of the GEAMA Group and has received various awards and honors (1995: Young Researchers Medal from the Spanish Mineralogical Society; 2004: Research Award from the National Academy of Sciences of Galicia; 2020: Impulso Award from the Social Council of the UDC). He is currently a member of the Test Methods Committee of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM) (since 2020).
