Joel Sánchez Piñero
Joel Sánchez-Piñero holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (2016) and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Technology, and Management (2017) from the UDC. In 2017, he joined the Applied Analytical Chemistry (QANAP) group at the UDC as a researcher, where he earned his Ph.D. in Environmental and Fundamental Chemistry (2021) and currently continues his work with public funding (Government of Galicia, 2018–present).
His research focuses on the bioaccessibility and bioavailability (inhalation, oral, and dermal) of contaminants in environmental matrices (microplastics, soils, tire-derived materials, and, especially, atmospheric particulate matter (PM)) through in vitro assays using simulated biological fluids. He has developed multi-residue methodologies for the analysis of priority and emerging organic contaminants, with expertise in sample preparation techniques (VALLE, MASE) and instrumental analysis (HPLC-DAD-FLD, GC-MS/MS, UHPLC-MS/MS), and in experimental designs for the optimization of analytical methods, as well as in the application of environmental exposure models for human health risk assessment (USEPA).
He has completed international stays at Northumbria University (United Kingdom) and LAQV/REQUIMTE (Portugal), has collaborated in university teaching in the field of analytical chemistry (UDC, UPorto-Portugal, and ESPOL-Ecuador), and has participated in various science outreach activities.
