Antonio Marí Bernat
Dr. Antonio Marí Bernat is a professor of Structural Concrete at the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering (ETSECCPB). He served as coordinator of the ATEM group (Analysis and Technology of Structures and Materials) from 2010 to 2020. Previously, he served as Dean of the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering and Vice Rector for Research at the UPC.
He has conducted experimental and theoretical research on the behavior, analysis, and design of safe and sustainable reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. His contributions include the development of conceptual mechanical models for design and shear evaluation, as well as numerical models for the nonlinear and time-dependent analysis of sequentially constructed structures, including the effects of shear stresses, reinforcement corrosion, and retrofitting interventions. He has authored 6 books and published more than 70 scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals. He has collaborated on the design and construction of unique and innovative precast solutions for bridges and wind towers, and on the assessment, strengthening, and repair of concrete structures.
He served as the General Rapporteur for the Spanish Concrete Code EHE-08 and participated as a member of the FIB Working Group TG 4/1 “Serviceability Models” in the development of the 2010 Model Code. He is currently a guest member of CEN/TC250/SC2/WG1/TG4 (Shear, Torsion, and Punching), which is working on the update of Eurocode 2. He was the first person to receive the “José Calavera” International Award, established as an annual award by the National Association of Reinforcing Bar Manufacturers (ANIFER), and was awarded the Commendation of the Order of Civil Merit in 2011 upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Public Works.
